Strategic Plan

Our History

Somali Women’s Development Association Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation based in Victoria. For over 16 years, we have been working to ensure young people, families, women, elders and people with disabilities from Victorian Somali Community in Australia backgrounds have every opportunity to succeed (these include refugee, migrant, asylum seekers, international students).

• We offer support and improve the lives of people during times of vulnerability by filling the gaps that community no longer fills

The strategic in five years 2021-2026:

• Educational support Homework Club tutors for primary and secondary school children (to continue helping families and young people who required our support)
• Employment Brokers to support African Australian Jobseekers ( to continue supporting long term unemployment AAJ to get a job.
• Mental Health and Domestic and family violence support services ( to continue our support services to provide support individuals and families who are going through hardship, homelessness, depression and stress during difficult times (to continue our support services and to help them a safe place to start a the new life.
• Emergency Food Relief (to continue our support to individuals and families by providing food for 100% people who are in isolation or going through difficulties).
• COVID-19 Health advice and information to the Victorian Somali Community in Australia (to educate how to protect the coronavirus (COVID-19) Delta Variant by following the authority information updates through DHHS COVID-19 update website (https://www.health.vic.gov.au/covid-19/covid-19-chief-health-officer-update) including:

1. COVID-19Safe Settings – information on COVIDSafe Settings for living and working in Victoria
2. COVID-19 Vaccines Information including how to book, vaccine eligibility and where to get your vaccination.
3. COVID-19 and where you can go to have the test done.
4. Public exposure sites – Victorian locations where there is a risk you may have been exposed to COVID-19
