Mental Health

Somali Women Development Association Inc. offers assistances to individuals, Young people, women and men through primary mental health intervention and intensive support programs through counselling/case work/group work individual clients’ family’s involvement in these programs enables individuals to improve integration into mainstream Australian society.

SWDA offers mental health mentor support programs one on one for individuals and adults incl. young people, women and men from refugees and migrants African backgrounds who are experiencing challenges that impact their mental health, social and emotional wellbeing, and school engagement. Young people who are struggling to cope, dealing with a variety of complex challenges including depression, anxiety, bullying, fear of the future and staying connected and engaged with school.

We are currently open mentor positions in 2021 to 2022 for volunteer opportunities. This is your opportunity to give back and connect with the community, increase your sense of purpose, and make a difference in a young person’s life.

The program empowers  women, men and young people, become more resilient, connected, and optimistic for the future. SWDA is delighted to use evidence-based practice approach. Every year we consciously evaluate our programs to understand the impact of mentoring on young people, women and men participants our activities, mentors, SWDA Homework Club for their school works, families, and communities. Evaluation of our programs show that all our community including young people experience a statistically significant positive and sustained change in the following areas:
